During the month of September 2023, the Eastern Regional Council together with the respective Local Councils and NGO ‘’Zibel’’, held various clean-ups for World Clean-Up month. In total 10 clean-ups across 8 localities that form part of the Eastern Region took place, 4 being underwater clean-ups and 6 being land clean-ups. The underwater clean-ups were organised in collaboration with NGO‘’Zibel’’and took place at Imsida, Tal-Pieta’, San Giljan and Pembroke, while the localities of Swieqi, Iklin, Ta’ Xbiex, Tal-Pieta’ and Hal Gharghur held land clean-ups. The Local Councils that participated all qualified for funds as part of a government scheme ‘World Clean-Up Campaign 2023′. These Clean Ups were all very successful with a high volunteer turnout and huge amounts of collected waste. Despite the environmental benefits, these events also served as a social event
were people from all walks of life got together for a cleaner and better environment.
