National Local Government Strategy – Consultation Process

National Local Government Strategy – Consultation Process

On Wednesday 31st August 2022, the President of the Eastern Regional Council, Anthony Chircop and the Executive Secretary, Jeanette Galea, attended the launch of a consultation process for the development of the National Local Government Strategy.

During the news conference, a document was presented with four consultation themes which are: good and effective governance, the strengthening of regional councils, localities with a cleaner environment and local councils close to the people. These themes will serve as a framework for consultation between all Local Government partners.
During this consultation process, meetings will be held between the regional councils and the local councils within them, as well as meetings will be held with other partners of the Local Government, with governmental entities and with those who somehow one way or another they have some influence on the management and work of the Local Councils.
During the conference the new heraldic coats of arms of the regional councils were also presented, as at the beginning of the year 2022 from five regional councils they went up to six. While the Central Regional Council became the Eastern Regional Council, and the South-Eastern Regional Council became the Port Regional Council, the new Western Regional Council was also established. The new heraldic coats of arms were designed by heraldic experts and published by legal notice.
